Research Methodologies in Management Control

Teaching Methodologies

The following teaching-learning methodologies (TM) will be used:
TM1 – Expository: exposition of some of the fundamental concepts, principles and rules to be taken into account when carrying out research
work (both in formal and practical aspects).
TM2 – Active: use of software to work with data and application of statistical techniques in the analysis (SPSS), and their interpretation, for
guided ‘learning-by-doing’. Active use of other software for managing bibliographical references (Endnote), carrying out bibliometric
analyses of literature, etc.
TM3 – Group work: collaborative process in learning and critically analysing statistical techniques.
TM4 – Autonomous work with support and guidance: researching research topics, with support for selecting the topic, searching for and
supporting the selection of a company to carry out an internship, etc.
This will enable students to develop specific and transversal competences that meet the objectives of the course.

Learning Results

Learning objectives (LO):
LO1. Study of research methodologies, methods and techniques in the field of MC, understanding the main paradigms of scientific research
and challenges in the various stages of the research process, with the aim of drawing up a D/P/I plan.
LO2. Prepare students for the preparation of the D/P/I.
Competences to be developed (C):
C1. Define the type of work to be carried out considering the purpose.
C2. Identify the research questions, objectives and possible contributions.
C3. Draw up a preliminary literature review in the area of research.
C4. Design a methodological framework (identify methodologies, methods and data analysis techniques) capable of answering the research
questions and proposed objectives.
C5. Draw up a work proposal, with the respective timetable for the stages to be developed.
C6. Feel able to carry out a piece of research independently, with tutorial guidance.
