Theoretical-practical classes, as stipulated in the curriculum.

  • Theoretical component: exposition of concepts and resolution of illustrative examples.
  • Practical component: resolution of illustrative and complementary practical exercises of the material exposed in theoretical classes, under the guidance of the teacher, but encouraging autonomous resolution. Sometimes using statistical software.

Learning Results

The aim of this subject is  to present a set of statistical techniques for analysing and interpreting data, using the SPSS statistical software.

Due to the inclusion of this subject in an MSc course, it is intended that the students develop practical knowledge and skills in SPSS to implement efficient analysis techniques to treat concrete problems.

Grading Methods

In this UC, the student, to be successful, will have to carry out a work and an exam, both as mandatory components. The work will be carried out in groups (maximum 4 students) and may eventually be discussed. The work is rated for 10 points. The exam is a written test, rated for 10 points, consisting of questions that contain outputs from the statistical software used and that focuses on all chapters of the program, with performance data according to the exam map.

The final classification is achieved by applying the following formula, the result of which is rounded to the nearest unit: CF = CT + CE,

where CT is the classification at work, on a scale of 0 to 10 values, without rounding; CE is the classification in the written test, on a scale of 0 to 10 values, without rounding.

Students who obtain a minimum final classification of 10 values ​​will be approved.

Observations;

1) The classification of the work (and eventual discussion) is valid for the normal, appeal and special seasons.

2) In the appeal and special seasons, the same work will also be defined with a deadline until the day scheduled for the exam. Students who opt for this modality will have to carry out an individual work. The calculation of the final classification follows the rules set out above.
