6.1- The methodological options leading to the fulfillment of the curricular unit’s program will focus on the following pedagogical strategy:
– Oral presentation centered on the planned contents, with the presentation of images of artworks; – Study and reflection on theories, works and reference authors; reading.

6.2- The assessment in the course will take place, at the option of the student, in the following ways:

– Continuous evaluation;
– Exam.

The evaluation in those modalities will obey criteria that will be explained in the statements and/or other elements presented, according to the following components and percentage:

CONTINUOUS EVALUATION
– In-person participation – 20% of the global assessment;
– Written test or Individual/group work – 80% of the global assessment.

EXAM
– Mastery of syllabus – 70% of the overall assessment of the exam;
– Ability to communicate ideas – 30% of the overall assessment of the exam.

3.1- To know the main theories of art;
3.2- Identify and interpret specific cases in contemporary art;
3.3- Analyze and interpret works and art situations in their different historical, social and cultural contexts;
3.4- Understand the problem of the definition and function of art and its systems (production, market and institution);
3.5- Knowing how to analyze a work of art and make critical reflections on your own personal aesthetic experience.

4.1- Introduction to the study of art and definitions of art. The discourse of artists and theories of art;
4.2- Art theory;
4.2.1- Modern art: Vanguards, Fluxus, Wolf Wostel, Ernesto de Sousa (Alternativa Zero);
4.2.2- Post-modern art: Pop art, Neo-expressionism, Anti-aesthetics, Feminism, Post-colonialism art;
4.2.3- Contemporary art: Institutional Theory (George Dicky), “liquid modernity” (Zigmunt Bauman);
4.3 – The institutional system of contemporary art: museums, art centers, critics, collections, curators, artists, art galleries, art fairs (ARCO, Madrid, Lisbon, Basel, Miami) and biennials (Venice, S. Paulo).
