Teaching Methodologies

eaching Strategies and Activities:

This course will prioritize strategies and activities such as:

•             Guided reading of texts, images, and videos

•             Debates

•             Case studies

•             Small group work

•             Role-playing activities

•             Communication exercises addressing different scenarios and needs

These approaches aim to foster collaboration and effective communication in the arguments and proposals presented. Additionally, the integration of technological tools is planned to motivate and facilitate student learning.

 

Assessment Methods:

Students may choose between two assessment modalities:

1.            Exam-Based Assessment

•             A single exam during the designated exam period

•             Accounts for 100% of the final grade

2.            Continuous Assessment

•             Weighted average based on:

•             Completion of tasks during contact hours (30%)

•             Group portfolio creation and review (35%)

•             Individual test score (35%)

Learning Results

By the end of the course unit, students should have acquired the necessary competencies to:

1.            Understand the principles of inclusive education, the international frameworks, and the Portuguese legislation that support them;

2.            Recognize and value the cultural and linguistic diversity of students;

3.            Reflect on practices and attitudes towards inclusion and diversity, identifying and selecting the most effective pedagogical approaches;

4.            Identify communication techniques that are inclusive and sensitive to the needs of all students;

5.            Select strategies, tools, and technologies that facilitate learning for all students;

6.            Envision measures that address the needs of all students, using differentiated strategies and accessible resources;

7.            Design assessment methods that consider the diverse ways students learn and express themselves, ensuring that all have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills

Program

Contents/Topics:

1.            Principles of Inclusive Education: Theoretical and legal foundations of inclusive education.

2.            Methodological Approaches to Inclusive Education: Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Multi-tiered Approach.

3.            Intercultural Competencies: Cultural and linguistic diversity and strategies to promote an environment of mutual respect and understanding.

4.            Inclusive Pedagogical Practices: Adaptation of materials and differentiated strategies.

5.            Collaboration, Cooperation, and Effective Communication: Among professionals and between professionals and families.

6.            Critical Reflection on Teaching Practice: Self-assessment and continuous professional development.

7.            Assistive Technology and Educational Resources: Tools and technologies to support inclusive learning and communication.

8.            Inclusive Assessment: Assessment methods that consider diverse learning styles.
