Teaching Methodologies

This course is taught by Social Sciences and Nature Sciences lecturers to encourage analysis, debate, research and critical and integrated
reflection on themes that mobilize knowledge about sustainability and development, as well as the complexity of the human being, namely
in its biological and cultural dimensions through the development and monitoring of projects aimed at children aged 6 to 10.

Learning Results

Develop a realistic and conscious perception of the situation of the planet in order to take and promote responsible, socially just and
ecologically sustainable attitudes and commitments
Recognize human diversity and the complexity of the body in its biological, social, cultural and historical dimensions and potential.
To analyze the curricular framework of the 1st Cycle of Basic Education (Environmental Studies) in Portugal, comparing it with that of other
countries;
To deepen skills that promote the integrated construction of knowledge relating to the Natural Sciences and Social Sciences.
To recognize the importance of the need to substantiate educational practices.
To design projects in Environmental Studies for children aged 6 to 10, mobilizing knowledge and skills from History, Geography, Physical
and Natural Sciences through methodologies that focus on learning and allow children to play an active role in the construction of their
knowledge.

– Essential Learning for 1st grade in Environmental Studies and other national and international reference documents.
– The area of Environmental Studies: i) location in space and time; ii) knowledge of the natural and social environment; iii) dynamism of
natural-social interrelationships.
– Project Work in the 1st Cycle of Basic Education: articulation of knowledge and practices in the area of Environmental Studies.
