Clinical Audiology III

Base Knowledge

Prior knowledge in the following areas:

– Anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the audiovestibular system

– Basic concepts of impedanciometry, audiometry, suprathreshold tests, and otoacoustic emissions, and their clinical applications

Teaching Methodologies

Will be developed using an active, practical, and integrated approach, combining lectures with practical classes. The focus is on developing practical and analytical skills, fostering autonomy and critical thinking.

The practical classes will consist of reviewing and deepening knowledge of audiological assessments through discussion of real and/or simulated cases, as well as exploring clinical reasoning by presenting clinical cases and progressively interpreting audiological test results. Practical sessions will include discussion of proposed clinical scenarios and constructing diagnostic hypotheses based on the available data.

Knowledge acquired will be monitored through the practical classes.

Up to 20% of the classes may be conducted online.

Learning Results

– Consolidate and deepen knowledge of audiological assessments.

– Recognize audiological patterns associated with different types of pathology.

– Critically interpret the results of key audiological tests, including pure-tone and speech audiometry, impedanciometry, otoacoustic emissions, and suprathreshold tests.

– Learn to correlate results from different audiological tests.

– Effectively communicate audiological findings in various contexts.
