The theoretical classes are aimed for the detailed presentation of the program contents. Resorting to the use of multimedia presentations appealing to direct intervention of students with description and discussion of physiological mechanisms.

On theoretical and practical aspects of the teaching of Physiology privileges, the viewing of videos for illustration of certain program contents and practical work and their discussion.

 

Learning Results

The student must acquire knowledge of:
• Human Physiology integrated with Anatomy, Biochemistry and Biophysics.
• Normal functioning of the human body at different age stages.
• Distinction of normal abnormal function from all body systems.
• Identification of physiological processes in different human systems.
The student must acquire skills in:
• Recognition and description of the physiological processes of the various systems.
• Assessment of the normal physiological functioning of the human body at different age stages.
The student must acquire skills of:
• Retain and develop knowledge of human physiology.
• Know and describe the physiological processes of different human systems.

     – Cardiac muscle cell

     – Arterial contraction physiology- blood pressure regulation

6 Respiratory System (3 hours)

7 Blood and Immunity (3 hours)

     – Innate and acquired immune responses

   8 Kidney (4 hours)

Grading Methods

 

The assessment of the course through continuous evaluation shall comprise two components, in accordance with the ESTES-Coimbra assessment regulations:

1. Matrix T – Written theoretical examination (70%)

2. Matrix TP – Presentation of coursework (30%)

 

A minimum grade of 10 points (after rounding to the nearest whole number) is required in each of the assessment components.
The theoretical assessment will be conducted through continuous assessment tests (two written examinations), consisting of questions relating both to theoretical content and to the coursework presented.
The final grade for the theoretical assessment by continuous evaluation shall be the weighted average of both written examinations, with a minimum grade of 8.5 required in each.

 

Final Examination Assessment
Alternatively, assessment may be undertaken by means of a final written examination, equivalent in structure to the continuous assessment tests, held during the designated examination periods. The same distribution of content and weighting of the matrices shall apply (Matrix T – 70%; Matrix TP – 30%).
