Teaching Methodologies
Lecture method with the use of audiovisual media and anatomical models. Method of the four steps.
It will be made some groups of students to solve simulated classroom case studies. The aim is to clarify issues and concerns as well as monitoring the level of awareness of issues and difficulties encountered.
Students who obtain a minimum grade of 10 (ten) points, rounded up, are considered to have passed this course unit.
Continuous assessment
Practical exam with simulated clinical cases and application of techniques on models, with a minimum grade of 10 points. Failure in this exam implies failure in the course unit.
Normal/ Resit/ Special exam period : Practical test (50%) and written exam (50%)

Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced life support (ALS) Approach the polytrauma Approach the intoxicated victim
Approach the major medical emergencies The student must acquire skills: To identify victims in cardiac arrest (PCR)
To identify critical victim To identify victim of trauma
The student must acquire competence: To perform LBS
To assist in ALS
To immobilize trauma victim
To assist in the stabilization of critical victim

To know the SIEM
To diagnose respiratory, cardiac and cardio arrest To act in accordance with the implemented protocols
To diagnose peri-arrest rhythms and to know the conduct in these situations To know the basic approach of the airway To know the indications and performance of basic life support To acquire the general ideas on advanced life support
To know the main clinical signs of respiratory and cardiac emergencies and the major forms of action, including acute coronary syndromes, COPD, asthma and acute pulmonary edema.
To have an understanding of safety rules and universal concerns and act accordingly
To know how to approach and act in the intoxicated patient: Opioid intoxication, Paraquat, Organophosphates and Benzodiazepines.
Antidotes.
To know the basic rules of the handling of multiple traumas
To know the principles for assessment of multiple traumas: ECA, thoracic trauma, abdominal trauma, pelvic trauma, TVM.
Detention, removal and bearing the victim of trauma.
