Teaching Methodologies
In this course unit, we have opted to use lectures, webinars, workshops, etc. to address emerging, relevant and specialised topics in the field of occupational therapy. These seminars may use different methodologies depending on the topics and the choices of the guests. The aim is to involve students in the choice of these topics and, whenever possible, clinical education partners.
Students who obtain a minimum grade of 10 (ten), rounded up, will be considered to have passed this course unit.
Continuous assessment 2 individual reports on two of the topics presented, including a critical analysis of current evidence in occupational therapy
Final assessment
Regular/resit/special exam period: written assignment on one of the topics presented throughout the course unit. (100%)

Learning Results
Upon completion of the course unit, students should know, understand and be able to:
1. recognise, apply and develop critical thinking on emerging topics in occupational therapy, as well as the societal challenges of the 21st century;
2. Critically analyze new approaches and relate them to evidence-informed practice;
3. Evaluate the available evidence on the emerging topics and areas presented.
Affective skills and competences are thus obtained: growth in the emotional/behavioral and attitudinal areas; and cognitive skills: reflective mental performance and knowledge
Program
Presentation and debate on emerging topics in Occupational Therapy (Examples: telehealth and digital health; person-centered practice; interprofessional practice; advocacy; preparation for parenthood; newborn health); and societal challenges (Examples: ecology and sustainability, climate goals and the responsibility of the occupational therapist; the value of human cooperation in the development of the occupational therapist, domestic violence and the duty of the occupational therapist to address abuse, gender health, among others.
The themes will be defined annually by the conductor with the participation of the students.
