Teaching Methodologies
Theoretical classes- expository method, analysis and discussion of the syllabus.
Theoretical-practical classes – simulated application of different intervention methodologies, analysis of clinical cases and discussion of the most effective approaches according to evidence-based practice;
Practical classes – Planning and execution of therapeutic sessions with sharing of experiences and difficulties felt in the dynamization and adaptation of activities and exercises developed in a simulated interaction between therapist and patient(s).
Autonomous work – Preparation of group work, reproducing intervention methodologies for clinical cases presented
Students who obtain a minimum grade of 10 (ten), rounded up, will be considered to have passed this course unit.
Continuous assessment
written test (40%) and group work (40%) and participation in class
Final assessment
Regular/resit/special exam period: written test (100%)

Learning Results
Students should be able to:
Know, understand and apply the constructs of the occupational therapy approach in the area of mental health in adults, aimed at the concepts of health, well-being and quality of life;
Identify and recognize occupational dysfunctions and needs as behavioral manifestations and compromised mental functions of underlying psychopathological conditions;
Identify and recognize the psychopathological diversity in different psychiatric disorders and select the most effective approaches for managing the signs and symptoms of illness;
Demonstrate competence in selecting, applying and adapting the most appropriate approach in different intervention contexts and at different stages of the recovery process;
Building, adapting and applying the occupational therapy process based on the concept of empowerment for the acquisition or recovery of occupational roles that enable the highest degree of autonomy and occupational adaptation
Program
History of occupational therapy in mental health, diversity of institutional and community contexts in which occupational therapists work;
Institutionalization, psychiatric and psychosocial rehabilitation, forensic psychiatry, disease stigma and paradigms;
National program for mental health;
Occupational Therapy intervention in the following nosological conditions:
Schizophrenia spectrum and other psychotic disorders;
Bipolar and related disorders;
Depressive and anxiety disorders;
Obsessive-compulsive disorder;
Personality disorders.
