Teaching Methodologies

Theoretical lessons: Expository teaching of the different intervention methodologies, approaches and techniques in Occupational Therapy.
Analysis and study of cases.
Theoretical-practical lessons: Simulated practice and role-play, under the guidance of the lecturer, with realization of the techniques and approaches taught combined with discussion of the theoretical content taught, following a design thinking methodology (focused on problem solving) to build and prepare case studies. In this way, they learn the intervention methodologies and approaches by experiencing them. 
Practical lessons: Practical teaching of the different assessment methods, methodologies and instruments, the different intervention methodologies, approaches and techniques in Occupational therapy. Analysis and study of cases.
Experimenting with different methodologies will, on the one hand, respond to the students’ different learning profiles and, at the same time, themselves will be able to apply them in their collaborations on future projects and in their professional activity as occupational therapists.

Students who obtain a minimum grade of 10 (ten), rounded up, will be considered to have passed this course unit.

Learning Results

Understand and know the most common diagnoses that occupational therapists work with in these specific age groups, understanding the impact that occupational dysfunction can have on occupational participation and on the promotion of health and well-being.
Adapt and apply the occupational therapy process in collaboration with the child/adolescent, family, carers and other professionals.
Know, understand and select models and methods of practice based on the occupational needs of children/adolescents .
Select appropriate intervention approaches, respecting the stages of intervention and occupational needs of each child/adolescent, relating them to occupational science, performance areas, meaningful occupations and different contexts.
Understand and know the specific situations of childhood and adolescence and show aptitude for acting in the different contexts of the person, group and family.
Develop and select measurable intervention objectives based on occupation.
