Base Knowledge
Basic concepts of Mathematics.
Teaching Methodologies
The concepts are introduced first and then are applied in problem solving based on Microsoft Excel software.
Learning Results
Identify and use the main features of a spreadsheet; add new features using programming; interpret, model and solve simple engineering problems using a spreadsheet.
Program
- Fundamentals of Microsoft Excel (version 2021/Office 365).
- Formulas and functions.
- Information organization.
- Charts.
- Advanced data analysis: pivot tables and pivot tables; scenarios; goal-seeking.
- Importing and exporting information.
- Excel programming: automation of tasks through Macros; Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programming language.
Curricular Unit Teachers
Alexandra Maria Galvão RibeiroGrading Methods
- Students attending the course for the first time (excluding working students) must attend at least 2/3 of the classes. If this requirement is not met, the student fails.
- Assessment consists of the individual resolution of practical problems using Microsoft Excel, and involves two components:
- C1: practical work, mostly carried out during classes; this component is compulsory for students attending the course for the first time (excluding student workers) and optional for other students;
- C2: two tests or a final exam; the tests will be held in the middle of the semester and in the last week of classes, have equal weight in the final grade and cover approximately half of the subject; a minimum of 30% in each test is required; the final exam will be held in one of the exam periods and cover the whole subject.
- The final grade is the sum of the two components:
- 10% x C1 + 90% x C2, for students who do the practical work;
- 0% x C1 + 100% x C2, for all other students.
- The student passes if the final grade, rounded to the nearest integer, is equal to or greater than 10 (on the 0-20 scale).
- If the student chooses to take the tests and is unsuccessful, they can still take the final exam in the appeal season exam, but not in the regular season period.
- Alternatively to taking the two tests, the student can take a final exam in the regular period or in the appeal period. If you opt for the normal period and are unsuccessful, you can still take the exam in the appeal period.
- You can only improve your grade in the C2 component during the appeal period.
