There is no room for teaching classes of any type.

Learning Results

Goals:

– Familiarization with the Energy Management theme.

– Acquisition of knowledge in the areas of energy audits and measures to rationalize consumption.

– Use of the electricity sales tariff and elaboration of consumption rationalization plans for energy-intensive installations.

 

Skills:

– Acquire general knowledge about energy issues, the current energy situation, energy policies and sustainable development;

– Use the electricity sales tariff;

– Understand the meaning of good practices in Conservation and Rational Use of Energy;

– Prepare and execute Energy Audits and prepare Consumption Rationalization Plans;

– Investigate and choose efficient technological solutions and have the ability to argue with the employer or client;

– Know the structure for the energy certification of buildings.

1. Introduction

Framework of the theme of Energy Management; Energy Characterization: worldwide, European and Portuguese.

EU energy activities. National Energy Strategy. Environment – Climate Change; National Context; International Instruments; National Strategy for Climate Change. National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency (PNAEE). National Action Plan for Renewable Energies (PNAER). Energy Efficiency Program in Public Administration (ECO.AP).

 

2. Tariff systems

Brief introduction to the formation of electricity costs and prices; The Portuguese tariff: Penalty factors;

Analysis of electricity bills.

 

3. Conditioning demand for electricity

Concept of demand conditioning (Demand-Side Management – DSM). DSM objectives. DSM alternatives. Implementation of DSM programs. Costs and benefits of DSM. Environmental impacts of DSM. DSM as a resource.

 

4. Energy audits

Purpose of an Energy Audit; Methodology; Characterization of an Energy Audit; Organization of an Energy Audit; Instrumentation; Results of the Energy Audit; Rationalization of energy consumption;

Management System for Intensive Energy Consumption (SGCIE); Consumption rationalization plans.

 

5. Rational Energy Use (REU).

Efficient use of energy resources in end-use facilities by sector of activity (industry, service buildings, transport and the domestic sector). Consumption rationalization actions: Power Reduction; Consumption reduction: Lighting, Driving Force; Acclimatization. Power factor compensation.

Grading Methods

Periodic and Continuous Assessment:

Two tests quoted, each, for 10 values. The scheduling of tests will be done in conjunction with the course coordinator. In order to pass, the two tests are mandatory.

 

Assessment by Exam (of all the subject taught): quoted for 20 values.
