Base Knowledge
basic principles of electrical circuit analysis.
Teaching Methodologies
In theoretical classes, an oral presentation of the subject is made with the support of slide projection. The
theoretical exposition of concepts is complemented by the formulation and resolution of application
exercises.
On the Nonio platform, students are provided with the slides used in classes and a set of exercise sheets
(with solutions) in order to promote the student’s independent study and consolidation of knowledge.
In laboratory classes, which are mandatory, practical group work is carried out to explore and consolidate
the syllabus.
Learning Results
This curricular unit aims to raise students’ awareness of the importance that experimental methods can have in solving engineering problems and provide training that allows them to operate, configure and select measurement systems.
Students must acquire the following skills:
– Know and understand the principle and know how to use the main electrical measuring devices;
– Know and understand the operating principle of the different elements of an instrumentation system;
– Know and understand the main characteristics, applications and limitations of Operational Amplifiers;
– Know and understand the main principles of transduction;
– have the ability to develop small applications in Virtual Instrumentation.
Program
1. Fundamentals of Instrumentation
2. International metrological system
3. Measurement of electrical quantities and measuring devices
4. Operational amplifiers: Basic assemblies and limitations
5. Instrumentation and isolation amplifiers
6. Measurement of non-electrical quantities: Transduction principles / Industrial Sensors
7. Virtual Instruments and Automatic Measurement Systems
Curricular Unit Teachers
Helena Jorge Carvalho da Silva MartoGrading Methods
Theoretical Component: 12 values
- Theoretical assessment is carried out through 2 tests or a final exam.
- The student must have a minimum of 75% attendance in classes (theoretical and practical) to access the distributed assessment and 7 points in each test to access the next one.
- Students without minimums in the 1st frequency will take a normal exam.
- The 1st test will be held on 3/4/2024 and the 2nd test will be held on the day of the exam in the normal season, with students being able to choose to take the second test or the exam.
- Approval conditional on obtaining a minimum of 9 (out of 20) in the theoretical component.
Laboratory Component: 8 values
- Laboratory attendance is mandatory, with 2 unexcused absences permitted.
- The laboratory assessment is distributed as follows:
- reports/preparations of work carried out in classes (weight 30%)
- 2 practical tests (weight 50%)
- final practical work (weight 20%)
- To obtain approval in practice, it is mandatory that the two tests average is equal or greater than 40% (out of 100%).
