Teaching Methodologies

Lectures, practical exercises (with guidance), assignments (with guidance), and classroom debates.
For better learning outcomes, students should attend and participate in classes, which will be valued in the assessment method of the course unit.
For adequate study of the subject matter, students should not only use the notes taken during classes but also consult and study all materials provided by the lecturer as well as the recommended bibliography.

Learning Results

Since this course unit is intended for future engineers, the aim is for students to acquire basic, practical, and fundamental competencies in economic science, which should enable them to: i) Develop general knowledge in the field of economic science through an understanding of its fundamental principles; ii) Analyse and reflect on macroeconomic information and its impacts on companies and households; iii) Develop the ability to reflect on real-world problems; iv) Acquire the ability to solve practical problems, not only as consumers but also from the perspective of producers/sellers; iv) Participate in debates on economic science, supporting their own positions; v) Understand the reality of the Portuguese and global economies through a set of indicators.
The teaching method will consist of presenting theoretical content, solving practical exercises, carrying out guided assignments, and engaging in classroom debates.

– Portuguese economy in a historical perspective;
– The Portuguese business reality;

– Sustainable Development and the Strategic Value of Sustainability;
– The concept of circular economy.
