Teaching Methodologies

The course will focus on analyzing an organization’s information system and drawing up proposals for improvement. The lectures will present the topics covered (Powerpoint and videos), as well as materials to support study (e.g. case studies). In turn, the practical work will be supported in progress meetings in order to clarify doubts and guide the progress of the activities.

Active learning methodologies will be used to encourage discussion on various topics.

Learning Results

The role of information systems in institutions makes it imperative to approach their organizational, technological and operational dimensions, in order to understand their relevance to current business models. In these context, several enterprise information systems can be implemented to support business processes and the emergent digital ecosystems. In many cases, information systems allow business redesign and new forms of interactions with business partners. This course will address the specification, design, and implementation of business processes supported by emerging information technologies and enterprise architectures.

Different enterprise information systems will be studied, including ERP (Enterprise Resourse Planning), CRM (Customer Relationship Management), SCM (Supply Chain Management), HCM (Human Capital Management) and other platforms that are driving digital transformation and industry 4.0.

 At the end of the course, students should be able to:

  • Know the main technological components of information systems
  • Understand how companies use information systems to support their activities and create competitive advantages
  • Understand how information systems can support decision-making at the different levels and functions of organizations
  • Understand how organizations develop and acquire information systems and technologies
  • Analyze the existing information system in a real organization and propose the application of business software solutions to organizations.
