Teaching Methodologies
Initially, for each topic, the expository method with discussion is used, followed by problem solving with the support of computational tools appropriate to the contents of the curricular unit. Student participation and critical discussion during problem solving (modeling, techniques and analysis of solutions) will be highly advised.
Learning Results
– Acquire skills to apply various techniques in order to get results that enable the support of decision-making.
– Give appropriate training for future studies / specialized work in the field of Operations Research.
– Develop the capacity for abstraction, intuition, critical thinking and interdisciplinary/integrated reasoning ability.

0. Introduction. Decision-making and Operational Research. Problem formulation and construct mathematical models.
1. Linear Programming. Description of Linear Programming problems. Formulation of Linear Programming problems. Problem solving using the graphical method and Simplex method.
2. Introduction to the Theory of Queues. Introduction. Structure and concepts of queuing systems. Modeling of queues. Characterization of arrival and service distributions: negative exponential distribution and Poisson distribution. Birth and Death Processes. Fundamental Relations. Classification of queues. Models based on the process of birth and death.
3. Project Management. Introduction. Construction of the project network. Methods of project planning.
4. Analysis and optimization of networks. Net. Shortest-path algorithms. Maximum flow algorithm.

Assessment can be continuous or by final exam.
Continuous assessment:
Continuous assessment consists of individual written tests in class (80%) and practical group work (20%). Assessments are based on problem solving, during which the student can only use authorized reference material (forms), as well as computational tools used in classes to support calculations. Students will not know test dates in advance.
The student is approved through continuous assessment if the sum of the grades obtained in the works and written tests is equal or greater than 9.5 points.
It is assumed that the student opts for continuous assessment, which replaces the normal exam period, when taking the first written test.
Assessment by final exam:
Written exam (100%), to perform during exam periods. The student is approved if the exam classification is equal or greater than 9.5 values
