Basic knowledge of programming and communication networks.

Teaching Methodologies

Expository method: a telling method were facts, concepts, principles and generalisations are defined and presented by the teacher and discussed with the class, followed by demonstrative examples;

Experimental method: an active method were the student develops the knowledge through research assignments and laboratory assignments, individually and in group dynamics.

Learning Results

It is expected that by the end of the course each student is entitled to:
    Install, configure and manage systems, based on the operating system GNU / Linux.
    Install and configure basic network services, e-mail services, file systems and authentication services.

    General Concepts;
    The Linux operating system;
    Installation and configuration;
    Shells and environment variables;
    Editing text on the command line;
    X-Window and window managers;
    Managing files and directories;
    Tasks and processes;
    Run-levels and services;
    User management.

Network Administration:
    Network configuration;
    Web Server;
    DNS and DHCP;
    Electronic mail;
    NFS;
    Samba;
    LDAP.

Final Assessment (50%)
    Written Exam
        Only those who pass the exam will be eligible if they:
            Achieve minimum scores on the mini-test and assignment
            Maximum of 6 absences in total classes
        Weight: 10 points
        Minimum: 40%

Continuous Assessment (50%)
    Individual assignments and performance/participation
        Weight: 2 points
        No minimum scores
    Mini-test in the middle of the semester to be held during class
        Weight: 4 points
        Minimum: 35%
    Individual final assignment with defense
        Weight: 4 points
        Minimum: 50%
