Teaching Methodologies

-Lectures to present the concepts, models and procedures of the syllabus, with the support of Powerpoint.
– Problem solving classes, with analysis, formulation and resolution of exercises to apply the contents, namely statistics applied to Quality, with systematic use of MsExcel.
– Case discussion classes, with group work and extended discussion.

Mastery of the concept of Quality, its historical evolution and its contribution to business development policies;
Familiarization with the formalization of the managing system and standardization.
Notion of the integration between Quality, Strategy and Marketing;
Interpretation and mastery of Quality tools, particularly statistical tools.

1. Introduction to Quality Assurance
Quality Definitions; Origin of Quality problems; Quality Myths; Quality Models;
Historical perspective on the development of Quality; Quality Management System; Quality Assurance Standards; Total quality.
2. Formalization of the Quality System
Interpretation and implementation of the ISO 9001: 2015 standard; New concepts; Terminology; Requirements.
Process management; Documentation and process mapping; Objectives and indicators;
Portuguese Quality System.
3. Quality in Management
Concept of life cycle and QMS; Quality Assurance and Management; Quality and competitiveness; Quality and
strategy; Innovation vs. Continuous improvement.
4. Tools for Quality
Check sheets; Histograms; Pareto diagrams; “Fishbone” diagrams; Graphics
trend; Flowcharts; control charts.
5. Statistical Process Control
Statistics applied to Quality: main distributions and central limit theorem; Detection of procedural trends; Control charts for attributes and variables; Process capability.
6. Product acceptance based on sampling plans
Sampling plans for attributes and variables; Operation curves; Standard sampling plans.

Grading Methods

Two types of assessment are foreseen: "distributed or periodic" and "by exam".

P- 2 (two) Practical work, with equal weighting

Students with attendance greater than 75% will have a 10% increase in this term P, applied on the result of the evaluation of the works, subject to the limit of 20 values ​​in term P.

In any of the modalities, "Test" and "Exam" have a minimum of 30%.

Scheduling of the distributed evaluation

The 1st work is submitted until 25 November 2022, being discussed, in a distributed way, in the following 2 weeks.

The 2nd work is submitted until the end of classes, being discussed in the exam support week

The test will take place in the last class.

Consultation elements and equipment authorized during the tests:
The "test" and "exams" are made up of two parts. In the first, no consultation or support equipment is allowed. In the second part, it is allowed to consult books, notebooks, or any material that the student intends to take and can also use a calculator or PC (all communications disabled) to be defined in each case in view of the problems posed in the test / exam.
