Base Knowledge
As this is an introductory curricular unit to the topics covered, no additional knowledge is required beyond that taught in Portuguese secondary education.
Teaching Methodologies
In classes, the expository and inquisitive method is used when explaining theoretical subjects. Whenever possible, active student-centered
methodologies will be implemented in classes, namely the flipped classroom. This solution, which requires prior preparation from students,
allows for more effective use of contact hours. During classes, interactive activities are used, through digital pedagogical platforms, aiming
at greater participation and interest of students. Whenever possible, numerical tools will be used to simulate the dispersion of pollutants in
the atmosphere or other environments, as well as to simulate various urban risks. The active participation of students is encouraged
through moments of sharing experience and general knowledge on the topics taught, by reading the news or through other means of social
communication.
Learning Results
At the end of the semester, students should be able to:
– explain issues related to the environment and its protection;
– reflect on the importance of the atmosphere in the climate;
– distinguish between pollution and climate change;
– reflect on current knowledge of climate change, mitigation and adaptation measures.
– Identify the main urban risks and their consequences
In terms of transversal skills, students are expected to be able to:
– communicate orally and in writing;
– research and summarize information from reliable sources.
– work as part of a team
