Teaching Methodologies
1 – Theoretical Classes: Presentation of fundamental concepts and analysis and design techniques, aimed at acquiring essential skills for the practical classes. Understanding of basic concepts about operating systems and how these concepts relate to the student’s experience and other content covered in the course.
2 – Practical Classes: There is a strong emphasis on practical work, given the nature of the course, to increase student participation by encouraging them to engage in the construction of their own knowledge.
Learning Results
The goal is to present the fundamentals of Operating Systems and relate them both to the student’s experience and to other topics covered in the course. Through the practical component, the student is expected to use the command line of a Unix operating system and develop system-level programs using the operating system’s mechanisms, taking into account both sequential and concurrent programming models.
Program
- Fundamentals of operating systems. Objectives and components of the system. Machine, process, and user management. Privilege levels.
- Fundamentals of Unix/Linux operating systems: Architecture. Components.
- Unix file system. Permissions and security. User management. Configuration files.
- Installation and configuration of Unix/Linux systems. Using Unix/Linux in command-line interface. Commands for: file manipulation and management, manipulation and extraction of information from text files. Redirection. Commands for machine management and user management. Configuring the command-line work environment.
- Bash Script programming. Task automation in Unix using Bash Script.
- Scheduling. Processor management. Scheduling algorithms.
- C programming for the Unix environment: Process management. Signals. Files. Redirection.
Grading Methods
In the calculation of the final grade, continuous assessment is weighted at 100%.
To pass the course, students must achieve a minimum final grade of 47.5%.
The process of collecting information, used continuously and systematically for assessment purposes, consists of the direct observation of the work performed by students in the classroom, based on the tasks, activities, and worksheets proposed, as well as the content reflected in the digital portfolio to be developed by the students.
The work carried out in the classroom accounts for 20% of the grade, the digital portfolio for 40%, and the individual final work/project (which includes presentation and defense) also for 40%.
All observed and collected information, derived from different tools and processes, contributes to the assessment of competencies.
