Internship

Base Knowledge

The recommended basic knowledge also depends on the internship to be carried out, but should fit in with those transmitted in the remaining curricular units of the course.

Teaching Methodologies

The internship of a professional nature can be proposed by teachers, by a company or institution or by the student.

Each internship is assigned one or more academic advisors, according to the areas involved, who will support the student through tutorial guidance throughout the academic period, and a company or institution supervisor who will support the student in integrating into the work environment.

The student and the advisors and supervisors will agree on a work plan for the internship. The work plan includes the objectives and scope of the internship as well as a schedule of activities to be developed. The internship should lead to the production of an internship report that satisfies the requirements for obtaining the degree of technician in Biomedical Instrumentation.

Learning Results

It is intended that, in their internship, students develop a set of skills among the following:

Apply the knowledge of electronics, digital systems and microprocessors, sensors and biomedical transducers to the diagnosis of problems in biomedical equipment.
Perform interventions and repair the equipment in order to improve its operational characteristics and prepare technical reports on them.
Analyze, design and carry out the installation and maintenance of biomedical equipment.
Program, execute and maintain automatic systems for biomedical equipment.
Install, change and maintain installations and electronic and digital equipment and using microcontrollers.
Perform, in the context of work, the maintenance of biomedical facilities and equipment.
Use methods of organization, management and quality to analyze technical solutions and budget proposal.
Apply electrotechnical, electrical and electronic techniques in an experimental context.
Use and calibrate measurement and test equipment.
Use the main types of sensors and transducers in biomedical instrumentation solutions.
Guide and supervise biomedical equipment installation, maintenance and repair activities.
Operate and calibrate instrumental analysis equipment.

Program

The syllabus of the curricular unit, depends on the internship to be carried out, being defined a work plan for each internship.

Grading Methods

The classification includes, cumulatively, 3 elements of evaluation:

1- The evaluation of the development of work in the host organization, which in turn should, for example, consider the parameters:

ii) Quality of work;

iii) Rigor and dexterity;

iv) Pace of work;

v) Application of safety standards;

vi) Initiative

vii) Social relationship.

This rating is expressed on a scale of 0 to 20;

2- The evaluation of an internship report that should contain:

i) an introduction that contextualizes the work developed and that presents the theoretical foundation of the area of activities;

ii) the description of the tasks developed and the possible results;

iii) suggestions / comments / proposals for improvement

iv) the list of bibliographic references cited in the body of the report;

3- The evaluation of the public presentation and defense of the internship report.

The assessment is based on the objectives and contents set out in the work plan that is part of the Student Internship Booklet.

The final classification will take into account the following elements:
a) The assessment from the host organization: 50%;
b) The written report: 25%;
c) Oral presentation and performance in responses: 25%.
