Chemistry Laboratory

Learning Results

With this curricular unit it is intended that the students develop the skills, attitudes, behaviours, methodologies and the best practices, scientific reasoning and that they acquire:
Theoretical and practical foundations of Chemistry Laboratory and the classic Analytical and Quantitative Chemistry.
Theoretical and practical foundations in volumetric acid-base, precipitation, complexation and acid-base.
Skills of self-organization, communication and relational.
Technical skills in the domain of the chemist laboratory at the level of the basic safety and handling of chemicals in the laboratory, preparation and standardization of the solutions used in chemical analysis and quantitative treatment of samples for chemical analysis.
Technical skills in the use of conductometry, potentiometric and volumetric as specific analysis techniques.
Skills in the interpretation of results of analysis

Program

1. Basic laboratory techniques: weighing, weighing material, volume. Storage containers for solutions and packaging materials. Preparation of solutions.
2. Acid-base volumetric. Preparation and standardization of an aqueous solution of acids and bases. Determination of the concentration of an ionic compound and an organic acid.
3. Volumetric of precipitation. Preparation and standardization of an aqueous solution of an ionic compound and determination of the ions.
4. Volumetric of complexation. Preparation and standardization of an aqueous solution of a chelating agent and determination of the ions.
5. Oxidation-reduction volumetric. Preparation and standardization of an aqueous solution of an ionic compound and a aqueous solution of iodine. Determination of the concentration of a vitamin, free SO2 and total SO2 and of dissolved oxygen.
6. Gravimetric measurements. Methods and tools. Application.
7. Electroanalytical methods. Conductometric and potentiometric titrations.
