Teaching Methodologies

The classes are primarily theoretical, complemented by a practical component involving the completion of small exercises.

These exercises will be introduced progressively, in alignment with the topics covered in class, facilitating a more effective understanding of the subject matter.

All support materials necessary for the lessons will be made available to students.

Learning Results

This course aims to provide students with an initial introduction to some of the most relevant technologies used in the creation of content for the World Wide Web. In this context, technologies that support the definition of a website’s structure and presentation layers are explored in depth.

Additionally, fundamental concepts of scripting languages are introduced, along with principles of Human-Computer Interaction, with the goal of promoting the development of organized, coherent content with an appealing design.

Finally, the main characteristics of different multimedia elements are analyzed, highlighting their role in enhancing the user experience.

Grading Methods

- The assessment methodology designated by the School as M1 will be adopted for this Course Unit (UC). As clarified in an email from the Vice-President of ISEC (2021/11/19; 18:07), this methodology involves continuous and/or periodic assessment, concluding before the exam period, with no subsequent assessment/exam opportunities.

- All students must ensure that their mailbox is operational, checked daily, and has sufficient space to receive regular emails, maintaining a reliable communication channel with the course instructor. Deadlines and other information communicated via email that are not met may result in failure of the course unit.

- Students with a special status, duly recognized by the Academic Services, which formally prevents them from regularly attending classes, must notify the course instructor via email as soon as possible, providing proper documentation. This will allow for the scheduling of alternative assessment opportunities that accommodate the restrictions justified by their status. These students are also responsible for following the course from the beginning of the semester and maintaining regular contact via email and the Nónio platform with the instructor.

- Students who attended the previous edition of the course without passing but met the minimum attendance requirement (75% or more of classes, including justified absences) must follow the same procedure as students with special status that prevents regular attendance.

- Any student unable to attend an assessment session due to a valid reason, confirmed by the course coordinator, must inform the instructor via email as soon as possible to arrange an alternative assessment date.

- Attendance Requirement: A minimum of 75% attendance in both theoretical and practical classes is required for approval, except in duly justified exceptional situations. Students under special status schemes (e.g., working students) are exempt from this requirement.

- Students who submit or present assessment materials that they are not the genuine authors of, or to which they did not make an acceptable contribution within their group, will receive the notation EF (Excluded for Fraud) on their academic record and will be subject to disciplinary action in accordance with current regulations.

- Students who fail to meet deadlines, comply with mandatory tasks, achieve the minimum performance targets, or respect any other assessment rules will have their evaluation in all components of the UC suspended, with the notation NRC (Does Not Meet Requirements) recorded.

Continuous Assessment:

  1. All grades are expressed on a 0 to 20 scale.
  2. Punctuality and class behavior will be valued.
  3. Effective class participation will be assessed through the timely and successful completion of exercises during in-class sessions.
  4. Includes small quizzes or in-class questions, which may be scheduled with or without prior notice.
  5. Additional assignments or tasks may be required, involving preparation outside class hours.
  6. Mandatory for all students.
  7. Subject to a minimum score requirement of 50%.
  8. Represents 100% of the final grade.

The final grade for the UC is obtained by calculating the average of all scores from tests, in-class questions, and assignments.
