Teaching Methodologies

Exhibition with small active moments to ensure the interiorization of the contents, resolution of exercises individually and in groups (Parts 1 and 3);
Exposition and discussion of technical na legal prescriptions regarding electrical distribution network infraestructures, telecomunications anf public lighting; analysis and discussion of real projects (desing and/or under construction. Basics of lighting design tools use. (Part 2).

Learning Results

Recognize concepts of the design and dimensioning of Water Supply Systems;

Recognize concepts in the design and dimensioning of Wastewater Drainage Systems;

Interpret and discuss public infrastructure projects for the distribution of electricity, telecommunications and public lighting.

Recognize concepts relating to the interpretation of road projects as well as assessing the need for interventions in road transport infrastructures, in terms of paving, drainage and road signage.

Program

1       Regulation of Hydraulic Infrastructures. Public water supply systems (constitution, operation and design). Public Wastewater Drainage Systems (constitution, operation and design). General Information on Water Treatment Plants

2       Electrical energy distribution; public lighting; telecommunication infrastructures.

3       General concepts about the main elements of roads and streets. Geometrical definition in terms of horizontal alignment, vertical alignment and cross sections; General concepts of paving (typical structures, materials, constructive technologies, pathologies, conservation and rehabilitation); Notions of road signs; Components of drainage systems on roads and streets.

Grading Methods

In each of the three parts, work will be carried out regarding continuous assessment:

•            Part 1: three mini-tests and a work consisting in the design of a branched water supply network;

•            Part 2: written exam and homework assignments;

•            Part 3: Individual work (which consists on determining the geometry of a small road and the volumes of earthworks, based on cross-sections obtained by the students) and a mini-test (regarding the other subjects discussed).

Alternatively, the students can be evaluated by final written examination of a theoretical and practical nature, related to the three parts taught.

In the final grade the assessment of part 1 is worth 60%, part 2 is worth 20% and part 3 is worth 20%.
