Teaching Methodologies

The teaching approach follows an active learning methodology, promoting the analysis and discussion of key topics related to metrology in hospital physical assets. There will be seminars given by national experts in the field of metrology, and a study visit will be scheduled to a healthcare facility with an in-house metrology laboratory and/or to a company with an accredited metrology laboratory.

  1. Explain the fundamentals of legal and applied metrology in the hospital context;
  2. Differentiate metrology activities from maintenance activities;
  3. Analyze the role of metrology in the hospital environment;
  4. Identify the main equipment subject to metrological validation;
  5. Relate human physiology to the tolerance requirements of medical equipment;
  6. Interpret the legal obligations associated with metrological verification;
  7. Describe the operational requirements of an accredited laboratory;
  8. Apply international standards relevant to hospital metrology;
  9. Justify the need for safety verifications of medical equipment;
  10. Integrate metrology activities into the life cycle analysis of hospital assets;
  11. Explain the principles of equipment family management and the operational management of related activities.

Grading Methods

The evaluation consists of reports of the seminars and / or study visits carried out as well as the preparation of a written work that constitutes a state of the art and reflection on one of the topics covered.
