Base Knowledge

The basic knowledge is transversal, namely from the fundamental sciences and from some areas of the course’s specialty, at the first degree and, desirably, with some kind of professional experience, in order to allow a comprehensive vision in the understanding and application of the broad spectrum of Organization and Management of Industrial Maintenance.

Teaching Methodologies

The teaching methodology is as follows:

• Presentation of topics by the Professor;

• Study visits;

• Lectures by professionals from the business sector;

• Presentation of program topics by students, supported by:

o Bibliography of the course and indexed scientific journals;

o AI tools.

• Discussion and analysis of exercises and practical cases.

Learning Results

To provide graduates with high skills in Maintenance Organization and Management, according to the State of the Art.

The overall objectives are achieved through the following specific objectives:

  • Learn the Physical Asset Maintenance Management tools that allow them to optimize their life cycles;
  • Learn the Management tools that allow to optimize the acquisition and replacement of Physical Assets;
  • Learn the diagnostic tools for the maintenance status that allow reorganizing a maintenance department;
  • Learn to apply the maintenance rules that allow the certification of maintenance services;
  • Learn to use dynamic modeling techniques to solve complex Physical Asset maintenance problems.

Program

The organization, management and control of maintenance.

Maintenance planning: the several types of planning; implementation of a planning strategy.

Reliability: Concepts; Most common statistical distributions; reliability of components and equipment, repairable and non-repairable. Serial and parallel networks.

Models of Organization and Maintenance Management: 5S; TPM (Total Productive Maintenance); Lean maintenance.

Maintenance Status Diagnosis.

The management of the life cycle of physical assets – LCI (Life Cycle Investment) versus definition of a maintenance policy.

NP 4492/2010: NP 4483: 2009; NP EN 13269: 2007; NP EN 13306: 2007; NP EN 13460: 2009; NP EN 15341: 2009; CEN / TR 15628: 2007.

ISO 5500X versus NP 4492 and support standards – Lifecycle Management of Physical Assets: Acquisition of Equipment; Elaboration of the Specifications – Selection – Reception and Installation – Training of Users.

Dynamic Modeling: Fault Trees; Markov chains; Petri nets.

Grading Methods

The Assessment has two evaluation methods: Exam; Continuous distributed assessment.
The distributed assessment throughout the contact period will have a weighting factor of 40% in the Final Assessment, dispensing with the resolution of questions corresponding to eight points in the Final Exam.
The student will have to decide and inform in writing whether they wish to adhere to the continuous distributed assessment method; if they do not do so by the end of the fourth week of class, they are automatically included in the exclusive assessment method by final exam.
The continuous/distributed assessment method requires:
• Minimum attendance of 70% in Theoretical and Theoretical-Practical classes.
• The completion of assignments, their respective presentation and defense, and other materials requested throughout the semester;
• Assignments can be individual or in groups, and will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
o Quality of content;
o Quality of presentation.
• For the evaluation, questions formulated by students during classes will be considered; Questions asked by students in class must be submitted in writing at the end of class, on a sheet of paper, with the student's name and number, duly signed.

The evaluation of the questions takes into account the following criteria:
 Relevance;

 Quality.

The exclusive evaluation by exam is done in the form of a written test (0-20) points, with a maximum duration of three hours.

Students who opt for this type of evaluation will have to justify the reasons for this choice in advance.

Students who obtain a grade higher than 16, in any of the evaluation periods, must take an oral exam to defend their grade.

Exams suspected of fraud may be subject to an oral exam.

During the exams, students may not possess cell phones, so-called smart watches, glasses with integrated electronic devices, or any other electronic device other than a calculator and a simple watch. Students must ensure that they hand over all prohibited devices to the teacher before the start of the exam.

The mere finding of a violation of the aforementioned rules implies the immediate annulment of the written exam, with consequent notification to a higher authority for disciplinary proceedings for fraud, as well as the non-assignment of a grade to the Course Unit, in accordance with Article 31-A of the Academic Regulations for the 1st Cycle of Studies at IPC, published in Order No. 9859/2022, of August 9th.
