Teaching Methodologies
The following teaching methodologies are used in this curricular unit:
– Expository method: a telling method were facts, concepts, principles and generalizations are defined and presented by the teacher and discussed with the class, followed by demonstrative examples;
– Experimental method: an active method were the student develops the knowledge through research assignments and laboratory assignments, individually and in group dynamics.
Learning Results
It is expected that by the end of the course each student will be able to:
1. Install, configure and manage systems, based on the operating system GNU / Linux.
2. Install and configure basic network services, e-mail services, file systems and authentication services.
Program
1. System Administration
– General Concepts; The Linux operating system; Installation and configuration; Shells and environment variables; Editing text on the command line; X-Window and window managers; Managing files and directories; Tasks and processes; Runlevels and services; User management.
2. Network Administration
– Network configuration; Web Server; DNS and DHCP; Electronic mail; NFS; Samba; LDAP.

1 - Periodic Evaluation: a test (40%); individual laboratory/research work (60%);
Assessment by exam: an exam (40%); individual laboratory/research work (60%).
It is required a minimum of 40% of the grade for each evaluation component.
A minimum score of 40% is required for each evaluation component.
The laboratory/research work will be evaluated based on the student's participation and proficiency in the laboratory activities, the submitted reports, and the presentations about the research topics.
Laboratory/research work must be carried out exclusively during the teaching period. Failure to obtain a minimum score of 40% in the laboratory work will result in the student not being admitted to the Evaluation by Exam, with the consequent failure of the curricular unit.
