Micro-credential in Biological Sample Collection and Pre-Analytical Analysis

The creation of this Micro-credential aims to enrich the training of the bachelor’s in biomedical science laboratories students, providing a set of practical tools that allow them to apply and deepen their knowledge related to the collection of biological samples and pre-analytical analysis processes. These elements are fundamental to ensuring excellent performance in laboratory practice, simultaneously promoting the quality and efficiency of the results obtained.

Students in the 4th year of the degree course in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences of the Coimbra Health School (ESTeSC-IPC), as well as holders of the degree in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences who are students of the Master’s course taught by ESTeSC-IPC, can apply for this micro-credential.

– Develop practical skills in collecting biological samples (blood and non-blood).
– Enable trainees to correctly apply pre-analytical phase procedures.
– Promote patient safety and the quality of laboratory results.
– Implement biosafety standards, traceability, and sample acceptance/rejection criteria.
