Teaching Methodologies

The teaching methodologies used are intended to provide an effective transfer of knowledge in an environment of dialogue with students that consolidates the process of teaching-learning. The course is taught in lectures and in laboratory classes. In the lectures are taught the theoretical foundations required for the development of the contents and the acquisition of the skills. The participation of the students will be encouraged in the adaptation of concepts to specific situations. Theoretical-practical exercises can be presented and discussed in the classroom. Practice component involves the lab execution of protocols and reports of the laboratory work and and answers to class questions.

Learning Results

– Know the properties of the solutions – Understand the laws of the Chemical Equilibrium considering the different types: acid-base, oxidation-reduction, poorly soluble salts, and complexation – Know the nomenclature and the structure of the main classes of organic compounds.

Program

Interaction forces between molecules and sites of action. Properties of the solutions. Chemical Equilibrium: acid-base, oxidation-reduction, poorly soluble salts, and complexation. Structure, nomenclature and physical and chemical properties of the organic compounds. Structure and properties of the main classes of organic compounds.

Grading Methods

Continuous assessment

Theoretical assessment -75%

  • 1st Test (50%)
  • 2nd Test (50%)

Practical assessment -25%

  • 2 Reports (60%)
  • Class questions (40%)

Continuous practical assessment implies compulsory attendance of practical classes, meaning that students must attend at least 75% of the total number of practical lessons.

Approval conditions
Students are approved by continuous assessment, if simultaneously:

  • Comply with the minimum compulsory attendance to practical classes
  • Obtain a final mark in the CU superior or equal to 9.5 values

Calculation of CU final mark (MFinal):
MFinal = 0.25MPractice + 0.75MTheoretical

Exam Assessment

Students not approved have access to different periods of Examination:
The final grade of the UC obtained in any of the exam periods is obtained through the weighted average indicated above with the practical grade of the Continuous Assessment, with the exception of Students whose attendance to practical classes is less than 75% of the total number of practical classes taught.
For those with no compulsory minimum attendance of practical classes, a practical exam is carried out in the last week of the semester.
