Teaching Methodologies

The teaching methods (ME) to be used are balanced between traditional and active and are as follows:
ME1 – Lecture of content by the teacher (compatible with learning objectives 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and 7)
ME2 – Testing the content learned by the students (compatible with learning objectives 1 to 7)
ME3 – Problem solving by the students (compatible with learning objectives 2, 3, 4 and 5)
ME4 – Interaction and sharing of ideas by the students (compatible with learning objectives 2, 3, 4 and 5)
ME5 – Development of students’ critical thinking (compatible with learning objectives 3 and 4)
ME6 – Research done by the students (compatible with learning objectives 3 and 4)
ME7 – Project-based learning (compatible with learning objective 3)
The curricular unit is based on lectures Theoretical-practical. The teaching methods (ME) to be used are balanced between traditional and
active.
The classes include the presentation of concepts and methodologies through the traditional exposition method and proceed to their
discussion, as well as the demonstration of the resolution of applied problems. In the classes, content is discussed and problem-solving is
demonstrated. There will also be practical worksheets for students to complete and to allow them to test the content they have learned. The
content is taught and discussed in a classroom environment.
In addition to traditional methods, the methodology will include active methods, namely project-based learning. As the name suggests, this
is an active learning methodology that aims to associate learning with doing. This method is based on the collective construction of
knowledge, moving away from the conventional classroom model where the teacher teaches a subject and the students demonstrate how
much they have learned with a final assessment activity. The project that we propose to develop, preferably carried out in a group, aims to
go through the various phases of a project to implement an ERP system to support the management of some business processes of a real
organization. This project will encourage problem solving by students, interaction and sharing of ideas by students in the same project
group, the development of their critical thinking and will also promote research carried out by them in order to enhance the solution based
on the functionalities of the ERP system.

Learning Results

As learning objectives (LO), at the end, the student should be able to:
LO1 – Know the fundamentals of enterprise information systems (EIS), in particular, ERP
LO2 – Introduce the ERP system Odoo and some main modules
LO3 – Implement an ERP system (Odoo) to support the management of business processes of a real organization
LO4 – Understand and propose the business model and value chain of organizations
LO5 – Know the principles related to business process management
LO6 – Understand the main phases of the life cycle associated with an ERP system
LO7 – Understand the heterogeneity in EIS, namely its interoperability and technological opportunities that exist, such as robotic process
automation (RPA)
The development of theoretical knowledge, practical skills and analytical competences are promoted in theoretical-practical classes through
various pedagogical methods (expository, demonstrative and project-based learning).

Grading Methods

The assessment of knowledge of this curricular unit can take the form of assessment by exam or periodic assessment. 

a) Assessment by exam

The form of assessment by exam will have an assessment methodology consisting of 2 components, respectively the Final Written Exam (EFE) and a Project (PR). The final grade (NF) is calculated according to the following formula:

NF = 50% x EFE + 50% x PR

b) Periodic assessment

The form of periodic evaluation will have an evaluation methodology consisting of 3 components, respectively the Periodic Participation (PP), Final Written Exam (EFE) and a Project (PR). The final grade is calculated according to the following formula:

NF = 15% x PP + 50% x EFE + 35% x PR

Assessment in the form of periodic assessment is subject to the timely delivery of assignments or challenges during the class period and is aimed at students who usually attend classroom or distance classes. However, this form of assessment, although recommended, is not subject to attendance at classes.

The evaluation component related to periodic participation (PP) in classes will be based on the preparation of classes and the challenges proposed during the classes. This component will only count if it contributes positively to the final grade. That is, if the final grade of the periodic evaluation (with the PP component) is lower than the final grade that would be obtained through the evaluation formula by exam (without the PP component), then the final grade will be the result of the evaluation formula by exam.
