Applied Research Project I

Base Knowledge

Knowledge about Scientific Research Methodology.

Teaching Methodologies

The teaching methodology combines an expository approach, aimed at presenting and substantiating the main concepts and content, with strategies focused on problem solving and carrying out structured and systematic literature research.

Debate and analysis of scientific articles will be encouraged, as well as the use of reference grouping and chronological analysis tools. Furthermore, the integration of seminars with specialists and researchers in various areas of knowledge will enrich and strengthen learning within the scope of Information Systems and Technologies. Research work will still be debated in class in order to promote peer review and
constructive criticism of research work in progress.

Learning Results

Main Objective:
Develop the theoretical and methodological basis of the research work, preparing the student to implement the proposed study.
O1. Characterize the approved research problem in the area of Management Information Systems.
O2. Formulate objectives and research questions or hypotheses.
O3. Structure a solid theoretical review.
O4. Methodological Planning – Choice of the most appropriate methods for the problem and data collection instruments.
O5. Research Proposal – Write and submit a document that details the topic, literature review, methodology and execution plan.
Competencies:
C1. Scientific Writing Skills: preparation of a document that covers the characterization of the problem, objectives, research questions, literature review, and detailed methodological plan.
C2. Argumentation of Assumptions and Methodological Options: Preliminary discussion of the research and defense of methodological planning of research activities.

Grading Methods

Continuous Assessment

The assessment includes carrying out:

A. 1 Project Report: Assessment of report content, quality of methodological sections, literature review and clarity of objectives.

A. 2 Debate of Methodological Options: Assessment of the ability to present the different options adopted in the project and to defend the choices made in the research.

A. 3 Participation and Feedback: Assessment of involvement and participation in debates and research seminars and ability to adjust the project according to the feedback received.

The final classification will be defined by the following formula:

Final classification = 60% Classification A. 1 + 30% Classification A. 2 + 10% Classification A. 3

The final submission comprises the first three chapters of the final Master's thesis (Applied Research): Introduction, Literature Review and Methodology.

Assessment by Exam

The evaluation includes carrying out all research stages outlined in the continuous evaluation and writing the Research Project Report, in the defined form. The report must make clear the theme and its justification, the objectives of the work and the research questions formulated. The application of systematic literature review methodologies and the identification of the research methodology appropriate to the proposed objectives should also be detailed.

The work must be sent to the responsible teacher at least 48 hours in advance and will be presented and discussed on the day of the exam.
