Base Knowledge

The attendance of the Applied Research Project I course unit is recommended.

Teaching Methodologies

The teaching methodology combines an expository approach, aimed at presenting and substantiating the main concepts and content, with strategies focused on problem solving and carrying out structured and systematic literature research. Debate and analysis of scientific articles will be encouraged, as well as the use of reference grouping and chronological analysis tools.

Furthermore, the integration of seminars with specialists and researchers in various areas of knowledge will enrich and strengthen learning within the scope of Information Systems and Technologies. Research work will still be debated in class in order to promote peer review and constructive criticism of research work in progress.

Learning Results

Main objective:

Plan the investigation, collection, analysis and processing of data and parameters, critical assessment of results, prepare the student to conclude and communicate the study.

O1. Improve research planning, adjusting methods, hypotheses and schedules.

O2. Collect data and technological parameters in a rigorous and safe way.

O3. Apply analysis tools (Python, Power BI, SPSS, MAXQDA) to explore and interpret data.

O4. Relate results to research questions, identifying contributions and limitations.

1. Planning Review and Initial Adjustments

– Review the research plan submitted in the Applied Research Project I.

– Adjust research questions, hypotheses, methods or timelines

– Assess the need to update the methodological plan

– Check the feasibility of collecting data and/or parameters.

2. Collection of Data and/or Technology Parameters or Models

– Implement planned methods.

– Guarantee the quality, integrity and security of data/ technological parameterizations or models

– Document the collection process

3. Analysis Tools

 3.1. Data Analysis (Phyton, Power BI, SPSS, MAXQDA)

         – Explore data and create analyzes and visualizations

3.2. Analysis of models and technologies

3.3 Relationship with hypotheses or research questions.

4. Interpretation and Discussion of Results

– Interpret the results, compare and identify the implications.

– Contributions of the study and its limitations.

Grading Methods

Continuous Assessment

The assessment includes carrying out:

A.1 Applied Project Report: Assessment of the quality, clarity and depth of the project report, including planning review, data collection, analysis and interpretation of results. Critical analysis of the methods used, the ability to identify limitations and propose improvements will be equally valued.

A.2 Oral Presentation: Assessment of the communication and defense capacity of the research carried out. The presentation must include an explanation of the objectives of the study, the methodology applied, the results obtained and the conclusions. The ability to answer questions and justify methodological choices.

A.3 Participation and Contribution in Classes and Seminars: Assessment of active participation in debates, discussions of practical cases and seminars, demonstrating involvement with the content and ability to apply knowledge.

A.4 Practical Execution and Implementation: Evaluates the implementation of data collection methods or parameterizations, ensuring the quality and integrity of the process. The ability to use analysis tools (Python, Power BI, SPSS, MAXQDA) in an efficient and well-founded way or the use of applied technologies and models.

Final Mark (0-20) = 50% Grade A.1 + 20% Grade A.2 + 10% Grade A.3 + 20% Grade A.4

Assessment by Exam

The assessment comprises carrying out all research components outlined in the continuous assessment and writing the Applied Research Project Report, in the defined form. The report must make clear the implementation of data collection methods or parameterizations, ensuring the quality and integrity of the process. The use of analysis tools or the use of applied technologies and models must also be clearly described.

Final Mark (0-20) = 60% Grade A.1 + 20% Grade A.2 + 20% Grade A.4

The work must be sent to the responsible teacher at least 48 hours in advance and will be presented and discussed on the day of the exam.
