Management and Maintenance of Transport Infrastructures

Base Knowledge

Basic knowledge of materials for transportation infrastructure and road pavement design.

Teaching Methodologies

Theoretical-Practical classes include a lecture and discussion component, and learning about applicable technologies and problem-solving methodologies. This approach provides an environment for interaction with students, but is conducted in a guided manner.
Group learning is achieved through resolving specific project problems of varying complexity. Students also complete a practical group project involving interpreting and discussing a conference paper, including a public presentation.

Learning Results

  • Design and evaluate paving materials.
  • Describe laboratory techniques for studying and controlling the quality of road paving materials.
  • Explain the composition and behaviour of road pavements and the layers’ functions.
  • Design flexible pavements for road transport infrastructure.
  • Apply the principles of flexible pavement reinforcement design
  • Justify the most common pavement maintenance techniques
  • Discuss transport infrastructure maintenance management techniques
  • Explain the primary methods for monitoring, maintaining and rehabilitating railways
