Thesis Project

Teaching Methodologies

The curricular unit is passed with a mark of 9.5 or more, resulting from the sum of the marks obtained:
Public defence of the thesis project (50% final mark)
Written work that must be accompanied by an evaluation from the supervisor(s) (50% final grade)
The mark for each of the assessments cannot be less than 9.5.

The teaching methodologies are related to a strong tutorial component, ensuring that the learning objectives are achieved in a holistic and effective way, which will be demonstrated by the scientific and technical quality of the report presented by the student as well as their performance during the defence of the thesis project.

Learning Results

At the end of the curricular unit, students will be able to:
1. Understand the scientific field of study and critically analyse, evaluate and synthesise new and complex ideas;
2. Apply research methods associated with a scientific field;
3. Conceptualise, design, adapt and carry out a research project respecting the requirements imposed by standards of quality and scientific integrity;
4. Communicate with their peers and the rest of the academic community about the area in which the project was conceived.

Program

The student must prepare a detailed written report on the thesis project (depending on the research topic), including: (i) the state of the art on the topic to be investigated; (ii) the objectives of the thesis; (ii) study hypotheses; (iii) experimental design; (iv) main results to be obtained (and obtained if any); (v) bibliography; (vi) proposed project timeline (timeline, milestones and proposed publications). You will also have to defend the thesis project in the context of your working group, which must include your supervisor(s). The grade obtained, together with an opinion from the supervisor(s), will be submitted to the Master’s coordinator. He or she will enter the grade in the joint agenda for the course.
