Created in 1979, Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra is a public higher education institution and is located in the Centre Coast of Portugal, in what has been known for centuries as the “city of students”.
It is one of the ten largest Portuguese higher education institutions, comprising six teaching units that cover a wide range of training areas, from agriculture and environment, through education, communication, tourism, arts, management, accounting and marketing, to health and engineering.

Through its schools, the Polytechnic of Coimbra offers Professional Higher Technical Courses, Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Master’s degrees, and is a living force of the city, with a preponderant role in the development of the local region and in the progress of the country.
Quality teaching – in which the strong practical component is supported by solid theoretical training, and in which there is a constant concern to adapt training to the needs of the labour market -, close association with companies, encouraging entrepreneurship and internationalisation are central pillars of the training provided, ensuring the success of its graduates’ careers, as well as high employability rates.
The Social Services are another organic unit of central importance in the adequate response to the student community, providing support, besides scholarships, food and accommodation, in medical services and incentives to practice sports.
