Higher Technical Professional Course in Automation, Robotics and Industrial Maintenance

Course Objectives

This course aims to train Technicians in the area of Industrial Automation, Robotics and Maintenance. After training the technicians will be able to design, program, plan and manage production and maintenance activities, equipment and people by using a computer-aided manufacturing system with the purpose to optimize production in qualitative and quantitative terms. The technicians will be capable to perform their tasks individually or integrated in a team of professionals.

Access Conditions

Under Decree-Law no. 63/2016, of 13 September and in line with Decree-Law no. 113/2014, of 16 July, with Decree-Law no. 65/2018, of 16 August and with the Regulations for Access and Admission to the Higher Professional Technical Courses of the Polytechnic of Coimbra and the Coimbra Institute of Engineering.

Professional Outlets

Install, configure and maintain industrial robotic systems;
Assemble, configure and maintain other automated systems;
Program the equipment according to the product’s technical characteristics;
Configure data communication networks according to specific requirements of each project;
Coordinate, supervise and / or use simulation, test and measurement instruments;
Develop, develop and execute maintenance programs and plans;
Manage interventions in the event of anomalies and / or breakdowns in order to assist production;
Plan, coordinate, supervise and / or carry out technical specifications and quality control of the product, materials or productive technologies conceived from the results of the study, experimentation and testing of prototypes;
Coordinate and manage problems in manufacturing systems;
Plan, coordinate, supervise and / or update technical information considered relevant by the company’s management.

Knowledge

Fundamental knowledge of mathematics;
Fundamental knowledge of organization, management and quality;
Specialized knowledge of the constitution of equipment used in industrial data communication networks;
Specialized knowledge of the constitution and operation of the main types of detectors, sensors and actuators used in the industry;
Specialized knowledge of security systems, forward and reverse kinematics of robots;
Specialized knowledge Establishment of acquisition, control and supervision systems – SCADA and human interaction – HMI, measurement techniques and industrial instrumentation;
Fundamental knowledge of electrical installations (control and command) and industrial maintenance;
Specialized knowledge of GRAFCET, Ladder and important blocks languages;
Specialized knowledge of electronics, digital systems and microcontrollers;
Fundamental knowledge of algorithms and computer programming.

Skills
Apply as mathematical bases to automatic systems
Perform configuration and programming tasks for industrial programmable automata
Assemble, alter and maintain electrical installations and industrial data communication networks
Identify and apply the main types of detectors, sensors and industrial actuators
Perform programming tasks for robotic systems and security systems
Use and program acquisition, control and supervision systems – SCADA and human interaction – HMI
Perform maintenance on automatic systems, electrical and electronic machinery
Organize and maintain the quality of automatic systems
Assemble, alter and maintain electronic and digital installations and equipment with microcontrollers
Analyze, organize and interpret technical and regulatory documents, as well as prepare reports and technical documents
