Course Objectives

The general objective of the degree in Physiotherapy is to qualify students for the autonomous and independent exercise of Physiotherapy at all levels of intervention in health care, with a wide and global vision, respecting the ethical, moral and cultural principles of the individual and the community where they are inserted, allowing to integrate multidisciplinary teams, where is developed their intervention centred on the patient/user needs, responding through an effective intervention to the different requests occurring from new health needs related to their profession in the interests of society in general or of health team in particular. The skills and capabilities are potentiated to conceive, plan, organize, implement and evaluate the intervention process in Physiotherapy. The training is framed in the level 6 of the European qualifications framework, allowing the international circulation of graduates.

Access Conditions

The national contest of access to public higher education, with admission exams in the following sets: 02 Biology and Geology or 02 Biology and Geology and 07 Physics and Chemistry or 02 Biology and Geology and 16 Mathematics. For the application is required the minimum rating of 95 points, in the admission test and application note, expressed on a scale of 0 to 200 points. The formula for calculating comprises 65% of the high school average and 35% of admission test. Regional preference corresponds to 20% of the vacancies, within the area of influence of Aveiro, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Guarda, Leiria and Viseu.

Professional Outlets

The completion of the degree’s syllabus on Physical Teraphy entitles the admission to the profession of Physiotherapist regulated by Decree-Law 320/99 of 11 of August. The professional card shall be required to the Ministry of Health through the CAHS (Central Administration of the Health System).

Learning Objectives

Are learning objectives of graduate in physiotherapy: understanding the scientific basis of physiotherapy and exercise clinical practice based on evidence; exercise with full responsibility and professional autonomy in accordance with the codes of professional conduct, the legal, ethical and clinical responsibilities inherent in professional practice; develop inter professional approaches and multi institutional collaborating with other professionals, teams and users/monitors; provide quality care, centred in user/customer, perform professional judgments, recognizing the boundaries of their practice; effectively communicate relevant elements of the care process; be involved in self learning processes that promote continuous professional development. Skills are acquired throughout the study cycle, which starts by the basic sciences of health and physiotherapy. Then the evaluation methodologies and intervention in physiotherapy are introduced, and the fundamentals of the investigation. The whole process in the classroom is deepened in real situation through clinic education. It’s compliance measurement is performed through the validation by evaluating in each of the curricular units that is adjusted to the type of curricular unit.
