Teaching Methodologies
Oral presentation of the UC contents in theoretical-practical classes, presentation and discussion of practical cases, complemented by invited seminars/lectures.
Execution of practical projects applied to real case studies (using PBL methodologies), carried out in small groups, which include a literature review component (e.g., in scientific, technical and legal documents) and a technical execution, which culminate in an oral presentation and discussion.
Individual extra-class follow-up moments to a more detailed discussion of topics, suppression of gaps and guidance of practical projects.
Study visits for practical demonstrations.
Learning Results
Understanding the environmental impacts of agriculture and animal production (AAP) and its role on carbon neutrality. Knowing how to comply with environmental legislation and licensing procedures applicable to AAP. Knowing the water quality parameters for different AAP uses, the AAP wastewater sources and characteristics and the appropriate treatment processes. Knowing the AAP solid waste sources and characteristics, the appropriate treatment procedures and the composting process as a technique organic matter valorization. Evaluating the energy consumption as an AAP production factor and identifying relevant energy efficiency measures. Identifying, evaluating and implementing measures to minimize AAP health and safety at work risks. Knowing the main voluntary environmental management systems as a tool for continuous improvement.
