Erasmus in the European Union

The Erasmus+ Programme

Erasmus+ is a European Union programme in the field of lifelong learning that enables mobility activities between higher education institutions, allowing mobility for students, recent graduates, teachers and non-teaching staff.
The programme offers students the possibility to undertake a study period (SMS) in an academically recognised European Higher Education Institution or a period of curricular, extra-curricular or graduate traineeships (SMT) in organisations or entities based in one of the EU countries.

Polytechnic of Coimbra application for the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) – 2021-2027 has been approved. The Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) is awarded to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and provides a general quality framework for European and international cooperation activities under Erasmus+.

This quality certificate is a prerequisite for all HEIs and contains the fundamental principles that must be respected when participating in the next Erasmus+2021-2027 programme.

Mobility under the Erasmus+ Programme is envisaged in the following typologies:

Studies (SMS) – realization of a study period in a European Higher Education Institution that has an Erasmus Agreement with IPC;

Traineeship (SMT) – carrying out a traineeship in a Higher Education Institution, entity or organisation based in an EU country;

Erasmus Teaching Mission (STA) – carrying out a teaching mission in a European Higher Education Institution which has an Erasmus Agreement with IPC;

Staff Mission (STT) – carrying out a period of training in a Higher Education Institution, entity or organisation based in an EU country.
