Technical-Scientific English and Communication

Base Knowledge

1.Reading comprehension of texts on biotechnology and agriculture, food safety, genetic engineering, and biomedical sciences.
2. Writing of CV and formal letters.
4. Grammar: irregular plural of nouns, countables and uncountables, the numbers, the articles, tense revison, the passive voice.

Teaching Methodologies

Teoretical- practical classes, oral presentations and practical tasks.

Learning Results

The student who succeeds in this CU has acquired the following competences:
2.1.Recognises the specificities of the technical-scientific speech in Portuguese and English.
2.2. Gathers, analyses and selects information in both languages.
2.3.Identifies and uses in a creative manner the syntax and rhethoric appropriate to technical-scientific speech in the production of written texts.
2.4.Identifies and uses the appropriate grammar resources.
2.5.Presents and explains orally topics and issues of his/her field of expertise.
2.6.Collects, processes, uses and produces information.

1. How to produce an oral presentation;
2. The training placement report, its contents and the language register adequate to its elaboration;
3. The bibliography norms NP 405 and APA.
