Teaching Methodologies

The teaching methodologies involve the involvement and responsibility of the students in the idealization, development and execution of a research project, monitored by the teacher in view of its rationale and final objective.

 

Continuous evaluation and participation:

a) Oral presentation (20%) – students must prepare two oral presentations (20 minutes), based on texts previously proposed by the professor;

b) Participation (20%) – participation in the discussion and comment on proposed themes; in seminars and scheduled study visits to libraries and archives;

c) Individual research project and/or group of 2 students (40%) – c. 30 p.m. (except notes and bibliography). Presentation of the research project (20%).

Delivery of the definitive version one week after the presentations.

 

The evaluation by exam (100%) will be done through a written test

Learning Results

1- Develop a theoretical-practical basis to identify and improve the mechanisms for designing, organizing and producing scientific work in their domains.

2- Promote knowledge of sources, methodologies and essential rules on which Research in Music should be based, also taking into account some applicable precepts of the Portuguese legal system and others resulting from community integration since 1986, including those regarding copyright.

3- Provide a fundamental and structuring basis for interaction between the various domains of Music, as well as with the generality of other knowledge of the degree, being essential for adequate training in higher education.

Program

– Scientific knowledge as a socio-institutional and historical outcome.

– Global background of the scientific research: a) Scientific knowledge outcome; b) Theorical and methodological bases and quantitative and qualitative research guide lines; c) research strategies d) Reseach methodologies and social intervention e) plurality and converging of paradimas: Euristic aproach of theories and methodologies.

– Resourses: written and non written documents. Written resourses: the origin of documents, diplomatic insight and validating process.

– Scientific aproach and journalistic aproach: a comparison.

The use of resourses in class: reading, analises, interpretation and documental transcription.

– Scientific research and copyrights. Research ethics.

– Research methods: historical, comopared, experimental, observative, case study and research in action.

– Conception, production and presentation of a project
