Pathology of the Audiovestibular System I

Teaching Methodologies

The classes will be based on the expository learning method and serve to direct the student to the fundamental aspects of auditory and vestibular pathology, with the purpose that the students understand the deviations of the normal function of the audiovestibular system, especially regarding the specific division of the ear and its parts, and the different organs and systems that interact with it.
The evaluation of the course includes a continuous assessment, through two tests and / or a final exam, which include theoretical and theoretical-practical written tests.
Attendance, participation in classes (namely through oral presentation of topics), preparation of works and regular resolution of lists of exercises as identification of structures can be considered in the final grade.
For approval, students’ knowledge in Anatomy and Physiology is mandatory, whose knowledge may be reassessed whenever they are relevant to the curricular unit.

Learning Results

To acquire knowledge of epidemiology, aetiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic methods, and approach to vestibular diseases. To be able to identify vestibular pathologies based on the list of associated symptoms. Be able to list differential diagnoses and understand diagnostic reasoning.
