Simulated Practices in Pharmacy I

Teaching Methodologies

The classes are using active and participatory methodologies, using when necessary the questioning,expository and demonstrative methods.
In practical classes technical skills development, such as are used the technique of roleplaying for training interpersonal skills, group dynamics exercises, and simulation of practices and techniques.
Case studies are presented, and then the students will be exposed to simulated dispensing medication, which will put into practice patient counseling.
The teaching materials used are mainly exposed slides using audiovisual media (or equivalent method), texts and articles with a view to a more interactive class, as well as the encouragement of literature, out of the class. Using autoscopy techniques.
The assessment shall be composed of three distinct phases:
1. Realization of a written test: 30%
2. Working group with presentation: 10%
3. Simulation Practical cases: 60%

Learning Results

Communication and information skills for technical and scientific advice in the professional sphere to other health professionals and the general public;
Technical and behavioral skills for direct or indirect communication in health;
Identify the clinical situation of the patient/user subject to information and advice on non-prescription and prescription medications;
Know and frame the non-prescription medicines within the counseling flowcharts for each clinical situation;
Characterize and assess the specific situation, collecting the necessary information and identifying referral situations;
Proceed to non-pharmacological and pharmacological counseling, emphasizing the clinical situations that can be dispensed with non-prescription medicines.
Advise and promote the safe and rational use of medication as a means of promoting public health.

Bases of the Relationship with the Client/user:
Strategies to deal with the Pharmacy User’s Complaint.
Pharmacy counseling:
Clinical situations considered minor health problems;
Situations subject to self-medication;
Counseling the patient:
