Teaching Methodologies
Key concepts will be introduced in lectures and supported throughout with contemporary examples. The use
of documentary video and current news stories will provide a contemporary dimension to the studies. Seminars will encourage group work and the practise of research skills. Group work will be encouraged in order to foster collaboration and team building skills.
The module will require both directed and independent learning. Directed learning will include reading and research in order to prepare for seminars and presentations. Guidance for these exercises will be given in classes and provided within the teaching and learning plan. Additional independent learning will also be encouraged and will include on-line learning materials, reading newspapers and business journals and watching international documentaries.
Learning Results
This module introduces students to the Global forces shaping international business and considers the macro
business environments of different regions and countries. Broad issues such as globalization, political
systems, major world economies, the formation of trade blocks and the regulation of international trade and
finance are considered. The module aims to provide a broad grounding of knowledge rather than the
application of analytical frameworks; these will be the focus of study at “Marketing for emerging markets” and
“Strategies for globalization”. The module will be based on contemporary cases and seminars will require
student research using the library and online databases.
