Agriculture and Sustainability

Learning Results

This course aims to promote the student, the following competencies:
1) Includes the climate challenge, including change scenarios in the context of agricultural production, and
interactions with soil, water and genetic resources.
2) Includes agricultural technologies related to the use of soil and water resources in the local context of farming
systems and agro-forestry.
3) Understand the factors and agricultural techniques in determining conservation and management of genetic
resources.
4) Know the risks and environmental impacts of agriculture and mitigation techniques at the level of agricultural
enterprise.
5) Develops strategies for eco-efficiency, and knows the “Best Available Techniques” (BAT) for each of the
agricultural and livestock sectors.
6) Meet environmental legislation applied to agriculture and environmental certification processes.

Program

The contents of this course are:
1) The issue of climate, including its classification and geographical distribution; climate change in the context of
global change and its impact on agricultural production and the conservation of natural resources soil, water and
genetic.
2) Technologies related to agricultural land use and water, the irrigation, drainage and control erosion and
salinization.
3) Genetic resources used in agriculture and the problems of conservation and enhancement ; agricultural
techniques in their conservation and management .
4) Risks and environmental impacts of agriculture; different scales of magnitude of impacts and mitigation
techniques known at the agricultural enterprise; EIA process.
5) Basics of life cycle analysis and eco-design applied in agriculture and analysis of BAT applicable to the sector.
6) Environmental law applied to agriculture and environmental certification processes of agricultural activity.
