Teaching Methodologies
In the classes we use the expository and inquisitive methods. During the presentation of the themes, practical situations are presented and students are encouraged to develop a critical thinking, with an active participation in class.
Students proceed to solving exercises individually or in groups.
In some classes (tutorial type) the individual learning skills and teamwork are explored through answering questions and monitoring the proposed work.
Learning Results
Develop skills on the various common materials of construction, conveying general knowledge on the structure, production, behaviour and applications. Knowing the most frequent use of building materials such as natural stone, ceramic materials, glass, metals, wood, binders, mortars and concretes. Understand the main characteristics of the various materials, identifying the advantages and disadvantages of each one according to the intended application, specifying the conditions of application.
Program
1. Characterization of the materials
Mass and volumetric characteristics; mechanical characteristics.
2. Description of the material
Natural stones; ceramics; glasses; metals (steel products, reinforcement for concrete, non-ferrous metals); wood and wood derivatives; aggregates; binder materials (standard cement, air lime and hydraulic lime, gypsum); adjuvants; additions.
3. Grouts and mortars technology
Grouts – properties, formulation, characterization and application; mortars – properties, formulation, characterization and application.
4. Concrete technology
Currents concretes – properties, formulation, characterization and application; Different types of concretes.
