Teaching Methodologies

The teaching methodologies to be adopted are intended to be diversified and include lectures, group work, individual research work and consequent presentation, as well as the realization of a larger project of requalification of a public space.

Learning Results

The learning objectives focus on the development and acquisition of: knowledge about the forces shaping the construction of cities and the challenges they face today; ability to recognize the various elements that make up the built environment and its public and private dimensions; ability to analyze the quality of a public space in the perspective of human and humanized use; knowledge about the production of urban space of private origin: planning, quality criteria, legislation, economic implications.

– Introduction and concepts; the role of cities in contemporary societies; problems and challenges – Sustainable cities

– Main models of cities throughout the ages

– The internal structure of agglomerations

– Urban risks in the context of climate change

– Components of the urban built environment

2. Urban public spaces

– Notions of design of public space elements – Success factors in public spaces

– Urban infrastructures and built environment – Tactical urbanism

– Urban furniture

3. Production of urban space and private initiative

– Notions of architectural quality and insertion of buildings in the built environment

– Urban regeneration and circular cities

– The land market: basic notions and its impact on construction dynamics; land and property valuation – Territorial management instruments at urban scale and their execution; the equalization system

– Legislation: legal regime of urbanization and building; urban licensing procedures and circuits
