German III (Foreign Languages III)

Base Knowledge

It is recommended that the student has completed level A1 or has successfully finished subjects German I and II.

Teaching Methodologies

Several methodologies will be put to use, such as games, spontaneous activities to speak and write, role-play situations, presentations, in-class discussions, among others.

Learning Results

In this semester students should improve on their language skills and enlarge the subjects about which they can talk and/or write.

Among other skills, students should be able to: invite, plan small events, understand and answer to ads, have complex conversations on the phone, ask for information at a hospital, stores or a bank, have conversations with healthcare professionals.

Program

Every class will be taught in German. Portuguese or English may be spoken to clarify any questions/tasks.

German III corresponds to the first half of the A2 level. By the end of German IV students will have completed A2.

Depending on the students’ performance, the majority or all of the following topics will be taught:

  • Weihnachten, Feier und Feste.
  • Umziehen, Anzeige verstehen und darauf antworten.
  • Die Stadt Köln! Sehenswürdigkeiten, Kultur, Dialekten.
  • Gesundheit: Ins Krankenhaus gehen, einen Arzt besuchen, Körperteile.
  • die Bank: Eine Konto eröffnen, Kreditkarte machen.
  • Adjektivdeklination im Nominativ, Akkusativ und Dativ.
  • Personal- und Possessivpronomen im Nominativ, Akkusativ und Dativ.
  • Pronomen vom Objekt (Ich gebe Maria das Handy -> Ich gebe es ihr) und ihre Positionen.
  • Wechselpräpositionen.
  • Sätze mit weil, wenn, als und dass.
  • Reflexivpronomen.
  • Sätze mit darum, deshalb, deswegen, daher.
  • das Präteritum
