Advanced Topics in Non-Invasive Ventilation

The course will be taught in a theoretical-practical format. The pedagogical methods are the expository method, in which the principles and concepts are approached according to the proposed program, using audiovisual media and the interactive method, with a privileged discussion on relevant topics introduced in the classroom, and that allow a practical integration of theoretical concepts, namely through the analysis and discussion of practical clinical cases.
The evaluation of the curricular unit takes the form of a written test, within the framework of the Academic Regulation.

The frequency of this course aims to update and deepen theoretical knowledge, as well as the applicability and practical experience in technical, laboratory and clinical procedures associated with theoretical and practical skills in the selection, adaptation and monitoring of patients for NIV in hospital and home settings.
The structure is based on an approach of methodologies to identify the need and application of NIV in diferente contexts and pathologies and, in particular, in acute and chronic contexts. It is intended to approach and deepen the knowledge related to the correct application of ventilatory modes, monitoring of parameters, protocols and guidelines, effectiveness and failure. It is intended a theoretical and practical applicability contextualized in the presentation, interpretation and discussion of practical clinical cases of the different clinical conditions of application of NIV.

– Assessment of the NIV candidate patient at home
